Stepping Stone International Academy (SIA) wrapped up its Foundation Week with a thrilling Sports Day on Friday, September 27th. The event, hosted by Ms. Heather and Ms. Jewel, brought together students from kindergarten, elementary, and secondary levels for a day packed with fun and competitive activities.
The day kicked off with a devotion led by Mr. Jef, centered on the Foundation Week theme, “Remembering the Past, Envisioning the Future.” He shared the biblical story of Joseph, emphasizing how Joseph’s unwavering faith in God helped him navigate life’s ups and downs, ultimately leading him to a position of great importance. The devotion reminded everyone that, even in tough times, placing one’s faith in God can lead to eventual triumph.
Following the devotion, Ms. Heather got the teams energized by having them create a team yell to chant after each game. The first event, the "Penguin Race," had participants racing with a ball between their legs. It was held in three categories: kindergarten, elementary, and secondary. Two more racing games followed, adding to the excitement. Before the morning games wrapped up, the Student Government (SSG) added a twist with a fun dodgeball game involving all teams.
The SSG also organized a small fundraiser during the event, selling cold drinks like lemonade, iced Milo, and water. Their booth, which ran throughout the day, provided much-needed refreshments for the participants and spectators alike.
After lunch, the games resumed with thrilling ball games. The basketball matches took center stage, with the red team going head-to-head with the blue team in the first round. In a close match, the blue team triumphed by just two points. The black team followed, securing a win over the white team with excellent teamwork. The finals saw the blue and black teams facing off, with black initially trailing but ultimately pulling off an incredible comeback to win the match.
An exhibition basketball match followed, featuring seniors and secondary students against a team of teachers led by Mr. Lim, the administrator, and Mr. Joe, the principal. After a tense 10-minute game, the teachers clinched victory.
The volleyball matches were equally exciting. In the first round, the blue team’s experience gave them an edge over the white team. The second round saw a balanced battle between the red and black teams, with black eventually emerging victorious. The finals kept everyone on the edge of their seats as the black team seemed poised to win, only for the blue team to emerge victorious after a stunning comeback from a deuce.
Another exhibition volleyball match between the teachers and students closed the day, with the teachers once again taking home the win.
SIA's Foundation Week ended with a spirit of unity and learning, leaving everyone with the lasting lesson of “Remembering the Past, Envisioning the Future.” The students played, learned, and cheered together, proving that while not everyone can win, everyone can enjoy and take away something meaningful from the experience. The event reminded everyone that reflecting on our past helps us understand who God is, and with that understanding, we can confidently envision our future.
